Hazelnut calibration. Meaning and necessary technique

Calibration is the process of sorting hazelnuts by size. This stage is of great importance for achieving high product quality, facilitating processing, meeting the requirements of the purchasing company and consumers.

Hazelnut calibration provides several important benefits:

  • Size uniformity: Calibration allows you to separate hazelnuts into different size categories. This helps create uniform batches of nuts, which contributes to ease of sale and processing, and consistency in the final product.
  • Quality improvement: Size-sorted hazelnuts are considered to be of higher quality, and have a higher value and price in the market. Calibrated hazelnuts are in greater demand both in the domestic and foreign markets.
  • Processing efficiency: Automated sorting systems such as rotary calibrators and linear calibrators greatly increase the speed and efficiency of hazelnut processing. This allows you to reduce labor costs and increase production capacity.

Hazelnut calibration technique:

Rotary calibrators: This is modern equipment used for quick and accurate calibration of hazelnuts. They sort the nut using a drum that has fixed holes of different sizes and rotates. Such calibrators can sort hazelnuts in the shell into 2, 3, or more fractions depending on the individual request. The sorting process in the rotary calibrator allows you to quickly separate hazelnuts by size.

Linear Calibrators: This is a type of equipment used for serial calibration of the hazelnut. The linear calibrator has a roller principle, the distance between the rollers is adjusted from smaller, at the beginning of the machine, to larger, at the end. During the operation of the calibrator, the hazelnut is moved and unloaded at the moment when the width between the shafts, which corresponds to the size of the nut, is reached. Linear calibrators can be configured for different nut sizes, allowing one calibrator to be used for hazelnuts, hazelnuts and bear nuts, walnuts, and almonds, and other crops such as snails or garlic.

Thanks to industrial equipment, hazelnut calibration has become a fast, efficient, and accurate process. It helps to improve the quality and uniformity of the product, ensures high productivity, and reduces labor costs.
