Buying walnuts is a nut business option with minimal investment and a quick start. For business, it is enough to know the basic principles of pricing, namely:
- Varietal walnut and walnut with a thin shell have a higher value in the market. Conversely, walnut with a thick shell is considered inferior and costs less.
- A walnut with a clean shell and a light kernel has the highest price. Dirt and remnants of the pericarp on the shell and the dark kernel inside cheapen the walnut.

Walnut procurement consists of purchasing walnuts in small batches, forming large batches, and selling them.
Walnuts are purchased mainly from the public. It may be:
- a stationary point in the local market where the walnut is received
- a mobile point, when purchases are made in cities and villages of the region or directly from people's yards
- purchasing through bulletin boards and walnut chats
Formed walnut batches are sold to industrial walnut processors, exporters, or foreign companies.
The buyer's income consists of the difference between the cost of buying and selling a walnut. Earnings are made "on volumes".
To increase the difference and, accordingly, increase the income, the walnut can be washed, dried, or calibrated.
- Washing improves the marketable appearance of the walnut. Washing is necessary when buying a fresh walnut with the remains of green skin.
- Drying allows you to store the walnut without losing quality. Drying is necessary when buying fresh walnuts at the beginning of the season.
- Sizing increases the value of the walnut by 9% and is a major process in the harvesting business.
You can start buying walnuts in any corner of Ukraine. This requires a room for calibrating and storing the walnut, a calibrator, and a place or machine for receiving the walnut. Over time, the business can be expanded to walnut processing.
