Sorting a walnut after cracking. How is it done in enterprises?

Walnut processing does not end at the crack. Since the walnut has a complex structure, in order to obtain a kernel after cracking, it must be peeled from the shell and partitions. This is a labor intensive and time consuming process.

At home and in small workshops, the bulkhead is carried out manually. With large volumes, manual sorting is unjustified - it is necessary to equip workplaces, hire staff, pay wages and rent. The staff is hired on the basis that one person per day sorts out about 17 kg of cracked nuts. In addition, in the absence of the required number of personnel, processing will not be carried out in full or will stop.

Sorting equipment that is used in enterprises for sorting nuts after the nutcracker:

1. Aspiration column. This is an installation that blows out light and small particles - shells and partitions - from the total mass of raw materials with a stream of air. The aspiration column has been successfully used in the processing of hazelnuts or walnuts, when sorting by size is not needed.

2. The vibrating sieve is used to sort the kernel into fractions - ½, ¼, 1/8. Sorting into fractions increases earnings, since the sorted kernel has a higher cost than the mix. The vibrating sieve also sorts crack nuts into fractions, after which each sorted fraction is sent to an aspiration column to obtain a clean kernel.

A set of equipment - a vibrating sieve and an aspiration column is used in small enterprises.

In larger productions, automation is required, therefore vibrating screens with aspiration systems installed on them are used.

3. Vibrating sieve with aspiration also sorts crack nuts into fractions - ½, ¼, 1/8. At the same time, before unloading, each fraction passes through an aspiration column, where the shell and partitions are separated from the kernel. A nut that is not completely crack and not sorted on a vibrating sieve ends up in a container with an under-crack and requires a second crack. Depending on the quality of the nut, an aspiration vibrating sieve performs up to 70-90% of all sorting work. The higher the quality of the nut, the less undershot and manual labor.

4. Optical sorting machine. This equipment with an optical system it produces highest sorting and performs up to 99% of all work. The optical sorter can separate the shell from the kernel, sort the kernel into fractions or by color. The optical sorter is used in large walnut processing plants or in companies that purchase, sort and pack the kernel for export.

Sorting equipment is selected based on the volume of processing, the quality of the processed raw materials, the size of the room and other factors.
